A lot had happened in Paris and a lot had also not. There are all sorts of ways on to the rooftops of Paris. Some bars have access, some of the more expensive restaurants too; and viewing Paris from Centre Pompidou but being invited on to a roof is exciting, but to be treated with caution. You've seen how Haussman style Parisien buildings look from street level. There's little or no roof. Look a little harder and you'll see some deadly cylinders of steel dug into the wall resembling ladders as fire escapes. Looking out on to the city is glamorous but you need the nerves of a firefighter to be up there; something else entirely if you're planning on drinking.
